A little bit about us
We are Phil and Claire Hindmoor and this is our small, family-run, Caravan Storage business. We run it from the former Crofton Estate Farm, where we live with our children, some ducks and some chickens!
We have lived in Crofton since 2005 and we started the caravan storage business in 2006. We only offer indoor storage, as we believe it is by far the best option for caravan, motorhome, classic car and boat owners.
All items are stored in this secure indoor facility, protected by a range of security counter-measures, as recommended by a group of leading caravan insurers, known as the Caravan Storage Site Owners' Association (CaSSOA). We live on site, which provides added security, and we aim to leave you completely satisfied with our service.
Our site is well located on the western border of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, providing easy access from the M6 and the A74M. We are in picturesque Crofton, where Crofton Hall was once situated. Many of the features of the old Estate remain, with many beautiful Listed buildings, a large fishing lake, Estate Entrance Arch, deer park walls and so on.
We are members of the Caravan Storage Site Owners' Association (CaSSOA) and we are pleased to have received their highest award, a CaSSOA Gold Award for our site. See our page on the CaSSOA site.
We aim to provide the highest level of service to our customers. For more details, please contact us by telephone on 01697 343 615 or by e-mail on email@example.com.
We understand that your holiday begins when you collect your caravan or motorhome from storage. As a result, we aim to make it as easy as possible for you to have your caravan or motorhome ready for collection whenever you need it.
For security and safety reasons, we do not allow customers into the storage facility itself. Rather, we move your caravan or motorhome out into a secure outdoor collection area, by appointment, to allow you to collect it whenever you wish (24/7/365).
Crofton Hall Caravan Park (CL Site)
We also operate a small Caravan Club CL Site, which is located just around 3/4 mile from the Caravan Storage, within what was a Victorian Walled Garden for Crofton Hall and Estate. It benefits from the shelter provided by the old walls, plenty of space (just five pitches in around two acres), excellent bathroom and shower facilities and close proximity to the beautiful Crofton Lake, which can be enjoyed by those who like to walk, or even fish!
Many of our customers store their caravans with us, then book their holidays on our CL, to minimise towing distances. Given the high cost of fuel, this can prove to be a cost-effective way of having regular short breaks.
What are your storage buildings like?
The buildings feature a high-level of physical and electronic security, which has been confirmed and audited by CaSSOA. Before we started trading, we took the following photographs of the buildings:
Since the Crofton Estate left the ownership of the Brisco family, the buildings have had to find new owners and new uses. They are now used for all kinds of different purposes, although some, like the former dairy, haven't changed all that much. We're very pleased to say that the buildings around Crofton Hall have generally been used for sympathetic purposes, which are very much in keeping with the spirit of the estate.
Here are just a few of our neighbours; we hope that it will show you what is on offer immediately surrounding the CL site.
The Crofton Lake
Near the site is a large coarse-fishing lake, which was originally the water feature for the Crofton Hall. It is now owned and managed by the Carlisle and District Angling Club.
See the CADCAC page for more details.
The Cheese Farm
In the former dairy buildings, the Thornby Moor Dairy is housed, started in 1979 by Carolyn Fairbairn. Local shorthorn cows provide milk for unpasteurized cheese. Goats' cheese is another of their products, which visitors can purchase in the shop after viewing the cheese being made.
See the Thorny Moor Dairy Website for more information.
In the first floor of the Stable Block of Crofton Hall, Mark Aplin runs the excellent "Overwater Boats", which specialises in secure boat storage, bespoke boat building, refurbishment and repair and boat building courses.
See the Overwater Boats Website for more information.
Secure Self Storage
We are also able to offer Secure Self Storage at Crofton Hall Self Storage just adjacent to the CL Site. We provide high-quality Secure self storage for your property, with a very high standard of security, excellent access and long opening hours.
See the Crofton Self Storage Website for more information.
